JD Disalvatore Bio

Disalvatore is an award winning film maker, writer and social change advocate.

She has been volunteering at her local city shelter,
East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, for six years.

Her board work includes a term as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Frontiers Foundation. She has been a mentor for Point Foundation, and co-chaired the Major Donor Lesbian Committee for Outfest in addition to sitting on the Women’s Committee of the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center.

Disalvatore received the LACE Award from the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center, as well as the Tom Thom Award at Outfest (both for outstanding volunteerism and community engagement) in addition to a GLAAD Award for Shelter.

She produced the feature films Shelter, Elena Undone and A Marine Story(Grand Jury Prize, Outfest 2010 –Best Film in Festival, Audience Award: Best Feature) Disalvatore has taught film at UCLA and The American Film Institute and has moderated & produced panels on film for the Writers Guild of America, Power-Up and Outfest. She was also a producer in Visual Effects with credits including Armageddon, Dante’s Peak, Alien Resurrection and The X Files Movie. In addition to her feature film work, she has produced videos for non profits including Project Angel Food, Point Foundation, Outfest and The LA Gay & Lesbian Center.

In 2014, Disalvatore co-hosted the local NBC coverage of the West Hollywood CSW Gay Pride Parade, and produced the LGBT Wedding Expo at the LA Athletic Club. She has been a frequent co-host on The Frank DeCaro Show on Sirius/XM. She has written on LGBT issues for Curve, Frontiers, Clout, Planet Out and Gay Wired.

Disalvatore recently co hosted an entire hour on KPFK on the local animal shelters.
